For over 100 years, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (WPCU) has gathered Christians around the world in ecumenical prayer and fellowship. The worldwide WPCU is traditionally held in January and during the Pentecost season. This year’s theme, Abide in My Love and You Shall Bear Much Fruit (John 15:5-9), calls us to nourish unity with God and with one another through prayer, contemplative silence, and common action.

Abide in My Love: Cross-Canada Online Celebration of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Saturday, June 5, 3:00 – 4:00 pm EDT

Gathering as branches of Christ the True Vine, let us experience, and bear witness to, God’s abiding love during this season of Pentecost!

Leaders from diverse Christian traditions in Canada will offer prayers and Scripture readings. The Rev. Michael Blair, General Secretary, General Council, The United Church of Canada, and His Eminence Gérald Cyprien Cardinal Lacroix, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Québec and Primate of Canada, will offer homiletic reflections.

This event is bilingual (English and French), with simultaneous translation in both languages. 

This online celebration is free for all who would like to attend, but a small contribution to offset the cost is welcomed.

The World Council of Churches - Ecumenical Institute at Bossey

The World Council of Churches Ecumenical Institute at Bossey sets out to broaden its repertoire of courses in Ecumenical Studies to include a free course now offered fully online.

Applications are now open for the new online course, entitled “Together Towards Unity. Being Church in a Fragmented World.”

Starting in April 2021, the course aims to expand opportunities for students to explore the biblical, theological, ethical, societal, interreligious and missiological dimensions of ecumenism as envisioned at Bossey. The course offers succinct introductions into the classic dimensions of ecumenical studies. Through specific assignments, students are guided in exploring ecumenical relations in their local context, sharing about it in a global cohort of students and deepen their understanding through theological study. Strengthening the students’ agency and the students’ capacity for theological discernment is vital in this study program.

The course is FREE and is taught in English.

Deadline for application is 1 March. The course runs 5 April to 12 June.

Prayer for Christian Unity

I want to congratulate you on putting together such an important celebration, the very first “Week of Prayer” during covid.

As disruptive as this disease is and has been for the last 10 months, faith and prayers remain strong as we saw by the large gathering of participants and the unending support felt by all.

May God bless you as you continue to connect us all with His message.

Merci de l’avoir imaginée, programmée, organisée et partagée.

Pendant que sur l’écran-zoom on voyait Mgr Lépine exprimer sa joie, le voisin immédiat approuvait et c’était Mgr Faubert.

On voyait et entendait bien ceux et celles qui s’exprimaient. On avait les paroles des refrains des cantiques. Plusieurs langues étaient représentées.

On se sentait voyager dans le monde entier.

C’est le côté positif de cette pandémie dévastatrice et tenace de de nous obliger à inventer d’autres moyens de rencontre.

Nous sommes entre les mains d’un Dieu bon.

Oui, meilleures salutations à vous, parmi les participants(es) reconnues hier à la grande célébration de prière pour l'Unité! Entre autres, des Soeurs Miss. d'Afrique, des Soeurs de la Sagesse, des Soeurs Miss. de l'Immaculée-Conception,  des Frères du Sacré-Coeur, des Membres du Mouvement Fokolare et d'autres connaissances de différentes confessions rencontrées à l'occasion ...

Je trouve que Mgr Christian Lépine, exprimant sa joie personnelle, a bien décrit la joie qui se dégageait de la rencontre, bien que nous étions devant nos ordinateurs.

"Quand nous adorons ici, nous participons à l'adoration qui se vit au ciel.

Quand nous prions ensemble pour l'unité des chrétiens ici, nous éprouvons déjà, dans un sens, la joie de la communion des saints."

Au revoir à l'an prochain, espérant d'autres rendez-vous d'ici-là ...

J’ai bien apprécié la simplicité et le déroulement de la célébration pour prier pour l’unité des chrétiens. Plutôt que d’être seul devant mon écran, même en communion avec tous les participants, je me suis joint au Centre Afrika où l’écran est plus grand, Je n’ai donc pas eu besoin du lien zoom que vous avez eu la gentillesse de me faire parvenir et dont je vous remercie encore.

Nous avons apprécié au Centre Afrika l’espace, où nous n’étions pas 10, la distanciation étant respectée, le silence aussi (pas de paroles et pas de chants), et nous avions nos masques.

Merci  beaucoup  pour cette  belle  célébration ,  qui innove   des techniques  nouvelles  et  nous  rassemble  pour  prier  pour l’Unité  des  Chrétiens  , et  merci   tous ceux  qui ont participé  au Service  Liturgique. Ce fut une très belle  célébration.

C‘est avec  joie  que j’ai prié  avec vous tous.
